Prime Choice is proud to offer Front Page extensions to
our customers at no additional cost. Further we are one of the few providers that
allow you a method of using both FTP and FrontPage. There are caveats so please read
these notices before continuing.
Front Page common
problems:
Avoid the most common problems with FrontPage by following this
advice..!
Never use the "Publishing Wizard" to upload your FrontPage web Always use the
"Publish Web..." menu option in FrontPage Explorer.
Never upload FrontPage control files (the ones in the _vti directories)
using FTP to the server. The .exe and other control files will not work on our servers -
it's like trying to run PC programs on a Macintosh.
Never delete FrontPage control files or directories off the server using
FTP.
Never delete pages or other files that FrontPage knows about off the
server - always use FrontPage Explorer to do this. Don't use the "Table of
Contents" bot. There is a bug in this which causes many sites to "hang"
when uploading using this. Until the bug is fixed by Microsoft, don't use it. This often
leads to failed uploads and errors like "Web Server Busy".
Following the above advice will minimize the likelihood of corrupting your FrontPage
setup, which requires a complete reinstallation of the server extensions on your area.
Read
this before you use FTP with a FrontPage-enabled account!
This is important information if you are intending to use FTP with your
FrontPage-enabled account.
We are one of only a few web presence providers that supports uploading by FrontPage as
well as by the more conventional FTP. We can do this because we have developed a system
that allows FrontPage and non-FrontPage-based access to co-exist reasonably happily.
However, FrontPage is very picky about the file permissions and ownership's on the files
in it's webs, so editing, uploading, downloading, or deleting anything that FrontPage has
had a hand in is a very bad idea.
Almost all files should be left alone. If you want to upload files using FTP, we suggest
you create a directory in your home directory and upload everything into there. |
